Awards & Travel Bursaries
❶ World Council of Biomechanics Travel Award
The awardees have been notified by the Council.
The World Council of Biomechanics (WCB) is pleased to invite biomechanists who have completed their graduate training and are practicing in regions of the world that traditionally have been under-represented in biomechanics, to submit an application for a WCB Travel Award to attend and present at the World Congress. The council anticipates awarding a few WCB Travel Awards of approximately € 1,500* each. The awards are competitive and may be used to cover travel costs, food, accommodations, and registration. The WCB Travel Awards recipients will be notified no later than 1 March 2022 and the awards will be issued at the conference.
Eligibility Criteria:
PhD degree or equivalent.
- Submit all application material: cover letter, Curriculum Vitae or Resume, list of publications and conference Abstract.
- Provide documentation of citizenship, residency and employment in a country traditionally under-represented in the field of biomechanics.
Selection:
The Executive Council of the WCB will select the travel award recipients based on the following criteria:
Quality of the abstract submitted for presentation at WBC2022.
- Evidence of contributions to biomechanics, especially in the country of practice.
- Quality of the supporting documentation (cover letter, CV, publications).

Please note that the conference abstract submission and travel award application processes are separate and require two actions. While abstracts are submitted online via the WCB2022 website, travel awards applications are processed by the World Council of Biomechanics after submission to Prof. Lynne Bilston.
* The council reserves the right to adjust the monetary award according to travel restrictions arising from the pandemic at the time of the conference.
❷ World Council of Biomechanics Student Bursary Awards
The awardees have been notified by the Council.
The World Council of Biomechanics will grant a few travel awards to students. The award consists of an amount of €1000* for students based in institutions within Africa, Americas, and Europe, which is expected to be used for travel, accommodation, living expenses and registration during the WCB2022 congress. For consideration, the candidate must submit electronically an abstract on this website and upload a single pdf document that includes (1) a brief justification as to why they are requesting a travel grant, (2) a 2 page curriculum vitae and (3) a statement signed electronically by the student’s supervisor that the applicant is a deserving candidate and will still be a doctoral student at the time of WCB 2022. Applicants should upload the pdf document through the registration system. The applicant must be the first author of the abstract. This WCB travel bursary will be announced by 15 March 2022 and issued at the conference.

❸ 9th WCB 2022 Student Travel Bursaries
The awardees have been notified by WCB 2022.
The 9th WCB 2022 Student Travel Bursaries is open to all students studying in a biomechanics related field in any part of the world. Recipients selected by the WCB 2022 Award Committee will have their student registration fee for WCB 2022 waived. For consideration, the candidate must submit an abstract through the abstract submission system and upload a single pdf document containing (1) a brief justification (maximum 1 A4 page) detailing why they are requesting a travel bursary (e.g., limited funding available in the host lab) and (2) a 1-page curriculum vitae. Applicants should upload the pdf document through the registration system. The applicant must be the first author of the submitted abstract and present the abstract in person at WCB 2022 in Taipei.
The Congress Student Travel Bursaries are partially sponsored by the International Society of Biomechanics Technical Group on 3D Analysis of Human Movement (3DAHM). ❹ 9th WCB 2022 Young Researcher (Pre-Doctoral) Awards
The finalists have been notified by WCB 2022.
The WCB 2022 Young Researcher Awards recognizes the outstanding research contribution of promising scientists in biomechanics and encourages them to pursue further research. The award will be eligible for graduate students pursuing a masters or a doctoral degree.
A number of semi-finalists will be selected based on the quality of their submitted abstracts and will be invited to submit an extended abstract. Six finalists will be selected for oral presentation of their abstracts at the WCB 2022 Young Researcher Award Session, based on the quality of their submitted extended abstracts.
The Award Committee will identify the best research presented in the award session to determine the award winners. The prize entails a certificate and a monetary award. The applicants must submit an abstract through the abstract submission system and select the 9th WCB 2022 Young Researcher Awards.
Eligibility
An applicant is eligible for the Young Researcher Award if he/she is a student at the time of abstract submission and shall be eligible even if he/she has completed a doctoral degree before WCB 2022.
❺ 9th WCB 2022 Early Career Research (Post-Doctoral) Awards
The finalists have been notified by WCB 2022.
The WCB 2022 Early Career Research Awards recognizes the research of promising scientists, six years removed from completing their doctoral degrees.
A number of semi-finalists will be selected based on the quality of their submitted abstracts and will be invited to submit an extended abstract. Six finalists will be selected for oral presentation of their abstracts at the WCB 2022 Young Researcher Award Session, based on the quality of their submitted extended abstracts.
The Award Committee will identify the best research presented in the award session to determine the award winners. The prize entails a certificate and a monetary award. The applicants must submit an abstract through the abstract submission system and select the 9th WCB 2022 Early Career Research Awards.
Eligibility
An applicant is eligible for the Early Career Research Awards if he/she has received their doctoral degree within six years when attending the WCB 2022.
❻ Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics Student Awards
The awardees have been notified by the Society.
TSB Student Awards are given to top 10 best abstracts submitted to this award category, as selected by the TSB Award Committee. The Award consists of a certificate and a WCB 2022 travel bursary (student registration fee for WCB 2022 waived). Any TSB student member who is the first author of an abstract submitted to WCB2022 is eligible to apply.
The candidate must send an abstract and a single pdf document of a brief curriculum vitae to Prof. Wei-Li Hsu (wlhsu@ntu.edu.tw).

❼ Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics Best Paper Awards
The finalists have been notified by the Society.
Submissions to the TSB Best Paper Awards are welcome from (1) Ph.D. students, and (2) young researchers with a Ph.D. within 6 years after his/her enrollment in their Ph.D. course studying in a biomechanics related field in any part of the world. The TSB Best Paper Awards will be selected based both on the quality of the abstract and the oral presentation at the TSB Award Session. Six finalists for the award session will be selected for oral presentation based on the quality of the abstracts submitted to the WCB2022. Other applicants may have their abstracts as poster presentations. The award committee will identify the best research presented in the award session to determine the award winners. The prize entails a certificate and a monetary award. The candidate must send an abstract and a single pdf document of a brief curriculum vitae to Prof. Wei-Li Hsu (wlhsu@ntu.edu.tw).

➑ JSME-BED Outstanding Young Researcher Presentation
(Bioengineering Division, The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers)
The presenters have been notified by the Society.
Six outstanding young researchers are selected to give oral presentations based on the quality of abstracts submitted to the JSME-BED. Submissions are welcome from (1) Ph.D. students and (2) young researchers with Ph.D. degrees obtained within six years following enrollment in Ph.D. courses in a bioengineering field.

❾ International Society of Biomechanics Female Research Excellence Award
The finalists have been notified by the Society.
The ISB Female Research Excellence Award recognizes a female researcher showing exceptional ability in research and communicating the importance of that research through written and oral presentation.
Six finalists will be selected based on the quality of their submitted abstract and will be invited for oral presentation of their research at the WCB 2022 ISB Female Research Excellence Award Session.
The Awards Committee will identify the best research presented in the award session to determine the award winner, based on quality of the research and delivery of the presentation. All finalists will receive a certificate and the award winner will receive $1000 USD. The applicants must submit an abstract through the abstract submission system and select the ISB Female Research Excellence Award.
Eligibility
An applicant is eligible for the ISB Female Research Excellence Award if they are female, a current member of the International Society of Biomechanics, first author on a submitted abstract, and they present the research in the award session. All career stages are encouraged to enter. Members of the ISB Executive Council are not eligible.
The abstract must be an unpublished research study (not a collection of research studies or previously published research).
